It is the government to buy what you sell? The answer is probably yes. But do not take my words. It is the research and find out. The Federal Procurement Data System - Next Generation (NG-FPD) is there, so that the transparency and visibility of the partners in government and the standardization of contracts. The system is a searchable database that allows you to use the acquisition of information through the four different methods.

1.      Prime Standard reports allow users to access up to 50 government reports, including reports of small businesses, federal contract actions and dollars, etc.

2.      Reports that are just static reports for the year based on data aggregated to the public and the federal government.

3.      Advanced Search, users can search for documents, reports and collect information such as contracts of specific NAICS codes, or product / service codes (PSC.)

4.      Ad hoc reports are fully customizable and allows users to select fields in the database, FPDS-NG to execute a query.

The database of federal procurement data system is not easy to navigate. There are some tutorials available on the system that you can take to help you learn how to use the database effectively. The real power of this database, however, is its ability to arm yourself with the information you need to know who buys what you sell. There are over 60 departments that use this database. Once you know the department, you can go to the Agency and to keep drilling until you find a recruitment company and, most importantly, a bargaining agent with whom you can start building a relationship,

If you try to do business with the government, you may already have taken some rate shopping, or past some of the SBA seminars to prepare you for the market of the Federal Republic. The common denominator that you heard over and over again to build a relationship with the contracting officer is the key. There are probably other things that are necessary, that is your statement of skills, the latest results, the resources required to perform, etc. Without the foundation for a relationship with the bargaining agent, you might as well be taken in the dark, you can get lucky and hit your target, but chances are you missed the mark.
